Examiner (Launceston) 24/09/1945 Cyril Brooks led North Launceston onto the field for the Grand Final. He was welcomed by the Chairman of the NTFA and “received a rousing reception”. While a “Brooks” is reported as playing in the Grand Final for North Launceston against Launceston at York Park it is likely this is a brother or other relative, shown in the selected team as S. Brooks. There was no ‘fairy tale” finish though, Launceston won the Grand Final in a close fought match, described as a “brilliant game”. It must have been frustrating for Cyril who had lost a Grand Final playing for North Launceston in 1939, before his time in Malaya began in 1941.

Advocate (Burnie) 21/12/1954 Cyril Brooks decided to retire from football and the Advocate published a tribute listing his many boxing and football successes as a player and coach, including one last premiership as captain of the Wynyard Seconds in 1954
