One day after this photo was published Japan would attack Pearl Harbour and start their invasion of Malaya Sporting Globe 13/10/45 reference R Sparks of Melbourne Juniors playing for “Carlton” in first Changi football competition. Also mentions Private R R Sparkes as part of organising committee. Suspect this is Reg Sparks with typo in spelling of his name. Sporting Globe 6/10/45 Reference to Reg Sparks of Ascot Vale Football Club returning on Largo Bay (Same ship as Bob Chitty) Sunraysia Daily 30/10/1945 shows Reg Sparks of Ascot Vale collecting a sword from Japanese NCO (See photo above) The Age 22/May 1933 shows a “Sparks” kicking 1 goal in Ascot Vale’s win over East Brunswick. Is this Reg Sparks? |
