| WWII Nominal Roll The Mercury (Hobart) 27/03/1941 T. Pearsall of Lefroy enlisting and the Lefroy football club to play as amateurs for 1941 The Mercury (Hobart) 10/10/1945 Mentions that Pearsall played for Lefroy said the spirit of the Tasmanians was never subdued The Mercury (Hobart) 11/10/1945 “Lt Pearsall was father and mother to the Tasmanian group in Changi and with a force on the Burma railway. He took risks to scrounge food for his men, and often took the blame and punishment for things done by others, and regarded by the Japs as misdemeanours.” Tom’s brother Allan was also an excellent sportsman and played two games for South Melbourne in 1941 before serving in the RAAF He was killed when his plane crashed in Europe. Allan only found out while waiting in Singapore to return to Australia. The Mercury (Hobart) 22/04/1946 T. Pearsall playing for Sandy Bay after the war Post war political career. Thomas was elected to Kingsborough council before being elected, in 1950, as the Liberal candidate to the Tasmanian Lower House and then winning the Federal seat of Franklin in 1966. He was defeated by the Labor candidate Ray Sherry in 1969 and returned to farming. |
